Jüri Kermik graduated from the Estonian SSR State Art Institute (ERKI) in 1982 with a degree in interior architecture and furniture design. In 1994 he graduated from the Royal College of Art with a Master's degree in furniture design, and in 1998 he also received a doctorate in plywood technology and design history from the same university. He is a lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Arts.
